Lloris impressed by Tottenham’s never-say-die attitude
A pair of rare errors from Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris may have cost his side at the weekend, but the French international insists Spurs’ fightback at Manchester City shows the resolve of his teammates is stronger than ever.
Two blunders from 30-year-old stopper Lloris saw Mauricio Pochettino’s fall 2-0 down at the Etihad Stadium, and having been humbled 5-1 (twice) and 6-0 at the ground in recent seasons, Spurs fans may have feared the worst.
But Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son restored parity against the odds, and Lloris was thrilled the north Londoners battled where they might have previously buckled.
“At the end, in a bad day for the team, we got a point against Manchester City,” he said. “But they played maybe one of their best games of the season. I think that’s really positive.
“The only thing is, okay, we conceded some big chances but they didn’t score, they scored on the mistakes, especially mine.
“The first I’m a bit unlucky with because it’s handball and the second one, that’s part of football unfortunately when you are a goalkeeper.
“Of course, I would have preferred to avoid that but even at 2-0 down, the team had a great spirit, we moved forward and we scored two goals.
“It showed the mentality of this team. I’m pleased for that. I’m sure a few years ago we might have conceded a bad defeat in a situation like that.
“We needed to stay positive collectively and we were able to do that. The fans were happy and they pushed us until the end.”
