Staying at Foxes was the right call, says winger Kapustka

Leicester City winger Bartosz Kapustka believes he has made the right decision to stay in the Midlands and fight for a first team start after rejecting a deadline day loan move.

The 20-year-old has struggled for opportunities since moving to the King Power Stadium last August, with boss Claudio Ranieri continually favouring others despite the Foxes’ Premier League struggles.

After signing for £2 million from Cracovia in his homeland last summer, it was somewhat of a surprise to see Leicester considering sending the winger back to his former club on loan in January.

Fifa’s two-clubs-per-season rule meant only a return to Cracovia was a possibility in January and the Poland international decided it would be better for his career to stay and fight for a starting spot in Leicester.

“I’m ambitious and I believe I have a lot to prove,” Kapustka said. “I’m motivated to change the situation.

“If I thought I was weak, then I’d have taken the easy way out and returned to Poland. But I believe I will get a chance.

“I asked loved ones, but it was only for a suggestion, the final decision was mine. It was not an easy decision, but I think it’s a good one.

“I’m going to spend time in Leicester, at least until the end of the season, and fight to improve my situation.

“There is a very big difference between our Ekstraklasa (Polish top flight) and the Premier League when it comes to the level of training.

“If I got a chance in the league, confronted with opponents on the pitch, then I could see what I was missing.

“When I came to Leicester, in the first training session I saw what I had to work on. I did it and I think I’m a better fighter than half a year ago. But I have no opportunities to go for an exam and to see how well I’ve improved.”
