Moyes applauds Defoe’s goal scoring exploits

Sunderland boss David Moyes has praised the predatory nature of his star striker Jermain Defoe.

The 34-year-old frontman took his season’s tally to 14 on Saturday with a brace as Sunderland put Crystal Palace to the sword with a 4-0 win.

Lamine Kone and Didier Ndong had earlier given the visitors at Selhurst Park a two goal advantage and Defoe sealed the victory with two goals in first-half added time.

The win, alongside the hard-earned draw against Spurs in midweek, moves Moyes’ side level on points with the Eagles at the bottom of the Premier League and just two points from safety.

And Moyes was delighted to see Defoe give the fans who had made the long trip down to the capital something to cheer about.

“Jermain is a predator and scores us goals, and it was good for Didier to get his first goal and Lamine to get one too,” he said.

“We took our chances. I thought we looked a much bigger threat all over the pitch.

“There were some really good goals and I’m pleased for the supporters to be able to come down here and see us get a good victory away from home.

“I asked the fans to show their colours and they certainly did that! They gave us great support as always and the team were great for them as well.”
