Burnley’s Marney on road to recovery after knee surgery, says Dyche
Dean Marney has had successful knee surgery as he starts his long road to recovery from injury, Clarets boss Sean Dyche has confirmed.
Marney, who has made 221 appearances for Burnley, was stretchered off in the Lancashire side’s defeat at Arsenal in January.
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder suffered a similar injury in February 2015, which kept him out for nine months.
Dyche’s men host Antonio Conte’s Chelsea at Turf Moor on Sunday, and will also be without Marney’s fellow midfielders Jeff Hendrick (suspended) and Steve Defour, who is nursing a hamstring injury.

Dyche said both Marney and Burnley’s physiotherapy team were in good spirits on the back of the operation.
“Ally Beattie (head physiotherapist) has spoken to the specialist who did it and he was really pleased with how it went,” said Dyche.
“I spoke to Marns yesterday and he’s really pleased too.
“It’s too early to say much but it’s the first day back to recovery, that’s the way to look at it.
“It will be the slow part of the recovery now but everyone is happy that it went well.”
“He has been through it before and he understands it all. He’s had a very good surgeon, so I think that helps.”
