Boruc: United performance shows way for Bournemouth

Goalkeeper Artur Boruc believes Bournemouth showed the way they should defend in future during the second half of their 1-1 draw at Manchester United last Saturday.

Despite being down to ten men following Andrew Surman’s red card on the stroke of half-time, the Cherries tightened up after the break, allowing United few chances to grab a winner.

It was in contrast to their previous showings at the back, which had seen them leak 20 goals in their last seven Premier League games before their visit to Old Trafford.

Bournemouth claimed just two points from that run, which saw them get dragged towards the relegation zone after a strong first half to the season.

Boruc said: “That’s what we should do every week, whether we have ten or 11 on the pitch, that’s how we should defend.

“We’re really really pleased and it was a good display from everyone who worked really hard.”

That Bournemouth were able to come away with a point after withstanding the pressure Jose Mourinho’s side put them under was down in no small part to the heroics of Boruc.

The veteran Polish stopper recovered from a howler in his previous game against West Bromwich Albion to produce a vital penalty save from the prolific Zlatan Ibrahimovic with 18 minutes left.

Boruc said: “There was no magic, I just dived the right way. We analysed lots of players but it’s down to the individual in that moment.”
