Hull’s Davies ready for selection battle

Curtis Davies may have played a pivotal role in Hull City’s season so far but the centre-back admits he has a fight on his hands if he is to get his place back following injury.

The 32-year-old was been out of action for six weeks with a hamstring issue, but returned to the bench in last weekend’s clash with Swansea City.

Harry Maguire and Andrea Ranocchia have struck up a strong partnership in Davies’ absence and the former Aston Villa star knows it will be tough to force his way back in.

“Harry and Andrea have been doing really well in the last few weeks,” said Davies.

“Andrea has settled into English football really quickly. He’s a good defender and comfortable on the ball.

“He’s an experienced player, he’s captained Inter Milan and played for his country, so I don’t think there is much that can faze him. He’s a great player for us to have here.

“Of course I want to get back into the team as quickly as possible, but I’m also happy to be on the sidelines if the lads are winning games and staying tight at the back.

“You want to play in every game of course, but this isn’t a club where we are selfish.

“You don’t want bad performances just so the manager might put you back in the team. I’m here for the team and staying in this league is what will make me happy.”
