Ward-Prowse would swap Saints goal for points
James Ward-Prowse scored just his third Premier League goal of the season on Sunday, but admitted he would have swapped it for a point.
Southampton trailed Tottenham 2-0 at White Hart Lane only for Ward-Prowse’s goal shortly after half-time togive the Saints hope.
However, Spurs saw the game out and Southampton now enter the international break of the back of a defeat.
Ward-Prowse hopes it will be a busy international break for him as he was called up to the senior England squad for the very first time.
And while he is happy to join up with the Three Lions off the back of a rare goal, he couldn’t help but wish it had brought the Saints some points.
“I think it comes with the role,” Ward-Prowse said. “You have to look to contribute in an attacking sense with assists and goals so that’s a responsibility I’m taking on my shoulders and looking to improve on all the time.
“It’s nice because you get further up the pitch and get more chances to score goals.
“But while it’s nice to score, it would be nicer to contribute towards some points for the team, but it’s one of those things.”
