Koeman: Everton family to support Coleman on route to recovery

The Everton family will help injured defender Seamus Coleman recover from his horrific double leg break, according to Blues boss Ronald Koeman.

The popular Irishman suffered the injury in his side’s World Cup qualifier with Wales on Friday night, and has since undergone surgery to aid the healing process after a tackle from Neil Taylor left him with a broken right tibia and fibula.

And while Koeman knows he will be without one of his most experienced players for a considerable length of time, he has backed those at the club, and its supporters, to help Coleman through the trauma.

“He will be aware that the thoughts of his teammates, the coaching staff, everyone at the club and all Evertonians are with him at this time,” said Koeman.

“No-one ever wishes to see something like this happen to any player, much less one of our own.

“The medical staff here at Everton are in contact with the medical staff of the Republic of Ireland and we will continue to liaise closely.

“Seamus will face a lengthy recovery period and we will support him throughout this.

“He is a really strong character and he has a great family around him and we, his extended family at Everton, will be here for him to help him get through this over the coming days, weeks and months.”
