Stoke’s Grant has moved past Chelsea blunder

After 500 professional games, Lee Grant knows how to cope with a blunder – and the Stoke City goalkeeper claims he is completely over his high-profile gaffe against Chelsea.

Last time out, Grant let Willian’s 13th-minute free-kick squirm through his grasp as Chelsea went on to inflict a 2-1 defeat on the Potters.

The 34-year-old recovered well after the mistake to produce a string of impressive saves and confidently claim a number of crosses.

And the former Derby, Burnley and Sheffield Wednesday stopper is adamant he is now raring to go for a game against reigning Premier League champions Leicester this weekend.

“I think the evidence for me comes in the rest of the game after the mistake happened quite early,” explained Grant.

“The great thing from my own perspective is that after the initial frustration is out of the way, I sit down as always, whether I’ve played well or not so well, and I look at the details of the game.

“You take that incident away, then you look at saves and coming for crosses and all the rest of it, and other elements of my game were really strong.

“So it was a really pleasing aspect for me and you have to be able to do that in our position as elite sportsmen.

“You have to be able to move on quickly from setbacks and you only learn with experience. And 500 games in, I’m managing to do that well.”
