Origi helping Wijnaldum settle at the Reds
He may still be learning to communicate in English with his new Anfield team-mates but for the time being Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum has found the unlikeliest of translators.
The Dutch international midfielder, who sealed a £25m move to Liverpool from Newcastle earlier this summer, has been relying on Belgium striker Divock Origi to speak with his new colleagues.
Despite spending a season in the North East with the Magpies, Wijnaldum has failed to learn English and has thus far relied on Origi and Christian Benteke since switching to Liverpool.

However, with both strikers rumoured to be on their way out of Anfield this summer – Wijnaldum will be desperate to pick up conversational English soon to avoid a lonely existence in the Reds’ dressing room.
“I try to speak with everybody to get to know people better,” said Wijnaldum. “But Divock can also speak Dutch, so it’s easier for me to communicate with him.
“I’ve been speaking a lot with him and also Christian Benteke and Sadio Mane.”
Wijnaldum has been adapting to life under new boss Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool but insists the training methods are very similar to what he was used to in Holland.
He added: “Every trainer has his own training style, so Jürgen Klopp has his own style. But it’s quite similar to some of the training I used to do in Holland because you play a lot of football.
“He will come and speak with me to ask me how I feel. He’s said if I need something, I can ask him. I feel at ease.
“He speaks to everyone, tries to help everyone and make everything clear. In training, if he sees that I have to do something different, he will stop and tell me ‘you have to do it like this… you need to be aware of this and that…’ In those situations, he’s also helping me.”
