Vardy reflects on ‘easy’ decision to stay

Jamie Vardy has unfinished business with Leicester City and insists he never had any intention of quitting the Foxes this summer.

Vardy – the Premier League player of the season last year – was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal this summer but instead put pen to paper on a new deal to keep him at the King Power Stadium.

And with the defence of their memorable Premier League title set to get underway next month – plus a Champions League campaign to contend with – Vardy admits he and his Leicester teammates are entering unchartered territory.

“Personally I feel I have a lot of unfinished business here. It wasn’t that big a decision, it was quite easy, this is where I wanted to be.”

Rumours continue to swirl about Riyad Mahrez’s future however – with Arsenal again linked to the attacking midfielder.

But Vardy is hopeful that his teammate will follow his example and rebuff all offers to stay at Leicester.

“I think everyone in the squad would want him [Mahrez] here playing with us,” he added.

“But it’s nothing to do with us, it’s up to Riyad and the club to deal with.”
