Alli impressed with new man Janssen

Dele Alli insists new signing Vincent Janssen will play a big role this season as Tottenham Hotspur attempt to improve on their third-place finish last year.

The Dutchman joined from AZ Alkmaar for £17m this summer after netting 27 times last season, and hinted at his Premier League potential with a goal in Spurs’ 6-1 pre-season win against Inter Milan.

The 22-year-old is expected to deputise for Harry Kane this season, but England midfielder Alli believes a beautiful partnership could blossom after watching the pair in action against the former European champions.

“Vincent is a great player and he showed what he’s got to offer,” he said.

“He scored his goal and for my goal, I played it into him, he set it back and all I had to do was stick it in the back of the net.

“You know what you are going to get with Harry, he’s going to score goals whoever it’s against. They were two great finishes and I’m sure he’s delighted.”

Boss Mauricio Pochettino traditionally plays with one striker, but Janssen has his eye on a first-team spot alongside Kane after a promising start.

“It was nice. It’s new for us. Of course, we’d never played together so it’s good that we’ve done that now,” he said.

“It’s nice to play in the team with him because he’s a quality player and I hope we can do likewise some more times.”
