Clucas’ delight at Premier League debut and new contract

It was a fairytale start for Hull City against Leicester City at the weekend and Sam Clucas cannot wait to get stuck into more Premier League opponents after signing a new three-year contract.

The midfielder put in an assured performance against the reigning champions to mark the conclusion of an impressive rise through the leagues.

The 25-year-old was playing at Hereford United in the Conference in 2013 before spells at Mansfield Town and Chesterfield, eventually joining the Tigers in 2015.

And after signing the new three-year deal he admitted it was a dream come true to be playing in the top flight of English football for himself and his family.

“It has always been a dream of mine to play in the Premier League and thankfully it has finally come true after a lot of hard work over the years,” he said.

“I would never have thought I’d be a Premier League footballer four or five years ago.

“If someone would have said that me, I’d have laughed at them and said it would be more likely that I’d be back working at Debenhams, so to be plying my trade in the big league now is unbelievable.

“It’s an exciting time, not only for me but for my family as well with them being able to come and watch me play in the best league in the world – the Premier League.

“I’m immensely proud of myself – and my family as well. So much work has gone into getting me to this point now and so many sacrifices made by others have got me here.”
