Daniels targets new-look United

A defeat to new boys Bournemouth was one of many lows in Manchester United’s 2015/16 season – now Charlie Daniels is targeting a second historic victory for the Cherries to kick off the Jose Mourinho era.

Bournemouth will welcome the Community Shield winners to the Dean Court on Sunday having beaten the Red Devils 2-1 in the corresponding fixture a year ago.

However it will be a very different Manchester United side coming to town, with Mourinho having replaced Louis Van Gaal, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic having helped them to Wembley glory on Sunday.

But Daniels believes Bournemouth have what it takes to spring another upset.

“Everyone is looking forward to it,” said the defender.

“It’s Jose Mourinho’s first game and they’re obviously bringing their new big names to the stadium which is great.

“We’re eager to recreate the scenes from last year, it was a very important game in our season last year, a great win.

“Let’s hope we can kick start our second season in the Premier League in a similar vein.”

Daniels will come into the game off the back of a full match against Angers in pre-season as Bournemouth remained unbeaten heading into the new campaign with a 1-0 win.

And the 29-year-old believes that Bournemouth are in great shape, having also travelled to the USA to prepare for their second Premier League campaign.

“It was good to get another 90 minutes, another good win and a clean sheet – that’s what we came here for,” Daniels added.

“It’s a good result and it was important, especially as it was our last pre-season game.

“The winning gives us confidence, first things first you have to get the fitness side right, but you also want to get that mental side right. To go unbeaten is a great achievement and taking that into first game will stand us in good stead.

“Also, the new lads coming in is a great thing. They’ve all settled in very well, Chicago was great to get to know them a bit better and to integrate them.

“They’ve all really taken to the way we go about business and they’ve all added to the squad.”
