Danny no mates wants Spurs win at all costs

Danny Rose is used to lining up against international teammates in the Premier League but the Tottenham Hotspur defender insists he has no friends on the football field.

Hyper-competitive Rose earned himself a starting England spot with his performances for Spurs last season, but he revealed that he has had to apologise to team-mates for his training-ground tantrums.

But it is all worth it to get the three points for Mauricio Pochettino on a Saturday and with Liverpool arriving at White Hart Lane – led by Rose’s long-time friend Jordan Henderson – the left-back won’t be engaging in any banter with familiar faces.

“It is just faces, I get on very well with Jordan, I have played with him since I was 19, but as soon as the game gets started I don’t think that he’s my friend or that I might be sitting with him if I am in the England squad or eating dinner with him – it doesn’t matter,” the 26-year-old explained.

“I can be a bit of a handful in training and games because I always want to win, sometimes I moan at the lads quite a bit but I apologise for that.

“On gameday, there are no friends – whoever I play against or whoever I play with, I want to win and I want the best for the team.

“Whenever I play I will always put my body on the line and do what I need to do to make sure this club gets three points no matter what.

“I will do what I need to do to make sure we get three points.”
