Diomande: Players are fully behind Phelan
Hull City’s players would be fully behind caretaker manager Mike Phelan if he were given the job full time according to striker Adama Diomande.
The Tigers were tipped by many to make an immediate return to the Championship after a disastrous summer which saw very few signings made, and former manager Steve Bruce leave the club.
But so far they have stunned Premier League champions Leicester City on the opening day, beaten Swansea 2-0 and seen off Exeter City 3-1 in the EFL Cup.
And Diomande was full of praise for the job that the former Manchester United assistant manager has done with a severely depleted and injury-hit squad.
“He’s been a great leader and he always has a smile on his face and is joking a lot,” he said.
“He knows the group because he’s been with Steve Bruce before and the players here before.
“He did a great job in the pre-season, he’s kept that going and all the players are behind him if he’s going to be the next manager.

“Everything is possible, we will see what happens next.”
Diomande has three goals already this season, his first in the Premier League, and admitted it was a dream come true to play in England’s top tier.
“It’s been a dream, I’ve been working hard since day one, every friend of mine has been really happy for me,” he added.
“It’s been a fantastic journey, I want to keep going and hopefully make more of an impact in the Premier League.”
