Diomande revels in dream Premier League debut

One game, one goal, one win – there are certainly worse ways for new Hull City striker Adama Diomande to get his Premier League career underway.

Fulfilling a dream of a lifetime, the Norwegian faced off against the champions Leicester City on Saturday, just about getting his boot to the side’s first goal at the KCOM Stadium as he and Abel Hernandez both unleashed spectacular overhead kicks.

It formed the perfect season opener for the managerless Tigers, with Diomande admitting the Premier League crowds orchestrated an unforgettable experience in his first game.

“There’s so much passion involved with English football and Saturday was everything I hoped it would be,” said Diomande.

“People follow this league from all over the world and I used to see it on the television. My dream to play in it came true.

“We use everything as motivation. I don’t think there was one positive thing written about us in the newspapers before the game, but we saw it another way.

He added: “Most of these players have been together for three years and there is a strong mentality here.

“We’ll stick together no matter what happens and we were delighted to get the win against the champions – the first time that has ever been done on the first day of the season.”
