Mahrez loves freedom to play at Leicester City
Star winger Riyad Mahrez has claimed the freedom given to him by boss Claudio Ranieri was a crucial factor in his decision to commit his future to Leicester City.
The Algerian international signed a new four-year deal with the club this week to end speculation he was following midfield enforcer N’Golo Kante out of the King Power Stadium.
Mahrez was named PFA Player of the Year last season after a stunning debut Premier League season which saw him score 17 times to guide the Foxes to the Premier League title.
And it is his special relationship with Ranieri that convinced him to stick around in the East Midlands for the long haul.
“Claudio (Ranieri) always says to me be free in the last 30 yards – be with the team, stay in shape but when you have the ball, you’re free so make the right choice and do the right things,” he said.
“It’s important for me because he gives me a lot of confidence and responsibility.
“It’s not just one player, it’s a team. What we achieved last year is because of the team.”

After Leicester’s surprise success last year they will play in the Champions League for the first time this season, and Mahrez has said the European campaign will be a joyride for the entire city.
“I’m excited to see what’s going on in the Champions League with big clubs and big players – we will see,” he said.
“It’s for everyone, not just for the players and not just for the club, but for the city and every one that’s behind Leicester City.
“Leicester City’s fans are amazing fans. They always push us at home and away as well they’re behind us.”
