Manchester United come under fire for Schweinsteiger treatment
Bayern Munich president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has questioned why anyone would consider moving to Manchester United after being left dismayed by Jose Mourinho’s perceived treatment of Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The German midfielder, a key cog of the side that won the 2014 World Cup, has reportedly been told by Mourinho that he is not part of his plans at Old Trafford – just one year on from swapping Munich for Manchester.
Indeed, after the 32-year-old did not form part of United’s 22-man squad for Wayne Rooney’s testimonial against Everton on Wednesday, the writing appears to be on the wall.
And Rummenigge says the messy affair only reflects badly on United – claiming it could affect their player pulling power should Mourinho not change his ways.
“I could hardly believe it. One or two players are going to think long and hard in future about whether they want to go to such a club,” said Rummenigge, who if rumours are to be believed is considering bringing Schweinsteiger back to the Allianz Arena.
“Nothing like that has ever happened at Bayern Munich.”
