McBurnie focused on making the leap at Swansea
Oliver McBurnie is confident he can start to challenge Fernando Llorente and co for a place in Swansea’s first-team after the Scottish striker marked his debut with a double against Peterborough.
The Swans swooped for former Bradford man McBurnie last year but he had to wait until Tuesday night to receive his first chance in Wales.
And the 20-year-old rewarded Francesco Guidolin’s faith, scoring twice just before the break to effectively put Peterborough to bed in an eventual 3-1 EFL Cup victory.
Swansea are not exactly flush with striking options aside from Spain international Llorente – who has yet to get off the mark competitively – with record £15m signing Borja Baston still working his way to fitness.

And while McBurnie admits the EFL Cup remains the likeliest route into first-team football this year, he hopes to have turned heads with his debut showing.
“As debuts go it’s not too bad! Three would have been even better,” he said. “I was happy to be involved in all of the goals and help the team win.
“It was a good opportunity for me.
“I’ve been involved a lot in pre-season while I scored for the Under-23s the other day, while I finally got my chance and it was nice to make the most of it.
“A lot of the boys who haven’t played much felt they had things to prove.
“It was a good opportunity for those players to impress.
“Myself and Jay (Fulton) were talking before the game and we said it was imperative that we win because it’s the main source of minutes for us. The further we get in this competition hopefully the more minutes we get.”
