Meyler’s Phelan good vibes at Hull
Mike Phelan has been handed the most unenviable job in the Premier League – but David Meyler insists Hull are finally pulling in the right direction thanks to their caretaker manager.
The Tigers, newly-promoted this season, have experienced a tumultuous summer after Steve Bruce stepped down after a summer of frustration with the owners at the KC Stadium.
But in one of the most eye-catching results of the opening weekend, Phelan guided a team many have pegged as sure-fire relegation candidates to a 2-1 victory over reigning champions Leicester City.

With another positive display against Swansea today, the odds of the former Manchester United assistant manager taking charge permanently will shorten again.
And Meyler says Phelan deserves all the plaudits coming his way.
“A lot of credit for the Leicester result has to go to Mike for the way he set us up,” said the midfielder.
“He’s very thorough. He doesn’t take any shortcuts and we feel as though we know everything about Swansea – we’ve watched everything in terms of analysis in preparation for Saturday.
“The media had written us off and we wanted to go out and prove a point with a performance and result. It was nice to get points on the board early.
“In many ways, the underdog tag takes the pressure off but we know that our focus has to be on picking up as many points as we can.”
