Morgan proud of Foxes’ Wembley display

Leicester City captain Wes Morgan believes the Foxes can be proud of their performance at Wembley Stadium despite missing out on the Community Shield to a late Zlatan Ibrahimovic header.

Jesse Lingard had given Manchester United the lead in the 32nd minute before Jamie Vardy picked up where he left off last season with a 52nd-minute equaliser.

Ibrahimovic grabbed a winner for United seven minutes from time, but Morgan was pleased with the battle shown by the Premier League champions.

“The result didn’t go our way but I think we can be proud of the performance,” he said.

“We battled well, we looked sharp at times and on another day it could have gone our way. The result is disappointing but I think we need to be proud of the performance itself.

“They had a lot of possession at times, we had to make sure our shape was right and we were in the right position at the right times, I think we did that for most of the game.

“The goals were a little bit soft to concede they are the little details we need to tighten up on before the start of the season.

“They didn’t have that many chances but they were clinical when they did and that was probably the difference.”

The defending champions now have just under a week to prepare for their opening Premier League game of the season against Hull, while Manchester United face Bournemouth on Sunday.
