Moyes is the man for Kirchhoff

Jan Kirchhoff can count Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola among his former coaches, but the Sunderland star is sure David Moyes has a bright future in the North East.

Former Bayern Munich and Mainz 05 man Kirchhoff shook off a shaky Sunderland debut against Tottenham to establish himself in the Black Cats’ midfield and help guide them to Premier League safety last year.

Though Sam Allardyce’s departure left a rather sizeable void to fill, Kirchhoff thinks ex-Manchester United and Everton gaffer Moyes has got the nous to guide Sunderland on to bigger and better things.

And it is Moyes’ regimented attention to detail which has caught the German’s eyes.

“I think he is a proper football coach. We call it like a real football teacher in Germany,” the 25-year-old said.

“He’s really close to the team and looking for details which I think, in my opinion, will increase our game and make all of us better.

“It’s good for every footballer to have that influence to become a better player.

“That is what we hope for and we hope we will be a better team.”

Though Kirchhoff would be forgiven for thinking his place in the Sunderland side is assured, the German has grafted throughout their pre-season trips to Austria and France to ensure he remains in favour under the new regime.

“Everybody wants to show his best side and show he should be playing in the first game of the season, so yes, all of us were trying to give our best,” he said.

“Hopefully we get everything ready in our mind and our body to be ready for Manchester City.
“We went out and had a good time to really grow together and settle down with the new manager to get his ideas about football into our training and into our game.”
