Rashford desperate to learn from Zlatan and Rooney
Marcus Rashford performed as if he’d been gracing the Premier League for years last season – but the teenager admits his personal success is still nothing compared to his trophy-laden teammates.
Manchester United ended their three-year trophy drought with back-to-back successes at Wembley, ending last season by lifting the FA Trophy before getting the better of Leicester City in the Community Shield curtain-raiser.
But after a breakthrough campaign that saw him net eight goals for United and score on England debut, Rashford remains desperate to soak up more trophy-winning knowledge at Old Trafford.
New strike partner Zlatan Ibrahimovic has won trophies at seven clubs – not to mention a slew of individual accolades – while Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick are the oldest remaining servants of Sir Alex Ferguson’s era.
And Rashford, still only 18, is confident he can put their wisdom to good use.
“It’s amazing to have both of them to learn from. You’ve also got someone like Michael [Carrick] too. You pick up bits from each of their games and put them into your own,” he said.
“They’ve won so many trophies. I think Zlatan’s won 30 trophies and Wayne and Michael are two of the most decorated players in football so there is a lot to learn from them. And not only for me, but the other young players who are coming through.
“Everything that we’re going through and will go through in the next few years, they’ve been there and done it and can tell us all about it. So it’s a real benefit for us to have them.”
While their recent successes are a start, United have bigger targets in sight this year with the hope that they cannot only return to the Premier League’s top four but mount a sustained title push.

One man who could prove key to that is record £89m signing Paul Pogba – and Rashford insists his signing was just one more boost to a squad that has welcomed in Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Ibrahimovic this summer.
“He’s a midfielder that can do everything,” he added. “He can go forward, he can sit, he can score goals and create goals and he can defend – he’s an all-round player that would benefit any team. We’re just lucky to have him.
“Since all the new players have come in, the team spirit has just gone up and up and up.
“Everyone is ready for the new season. We’ve all got the same mentality, the same mindset, the same goals – we all want to win. It’s exciting for everyone.”
