Redmond intent on following in the footsteps of Saints greats
Nathan Redmond admits he can feel the weight of history at Southampton when he walks the club’s corridors – and it’s proved inspirational so far after a superb start to life on the south coast.
The 22-year-old joined the Saints from Norwich for a fee believed to be around £10m over the summer and has so far been utilised as a centre-forward.
It’s reaped immediate dividends, as Redmond has looked lively just behind Shane Long and scored on his competitive debut against Watford.

Redmond has a long way to go before he can fill the shoes of legendary frontmen Alan Shearer and Matt Le Tissier at the club – but he wants to be revered in the same vein one day.
“Just when you’re walking down through the changing rooms at the training ground you see all the great players that have played here,” he said.
“From Alan Ball to Alan Shearer and Matt Le Tissier, who have also got OBEs and MBEs which means they’re just fantastic figure heads and legends that have played at this football club.
“To score on my debut was one thing and hopefully I can carry it on to set a marker for myself and hit my own targets, which is something else I want to try and do this season.
“I feel like I’ve settled in well and that I fit what Southampton is all about and hopefully I will continue to grow here to become a role model at the club.”
