Rooney relishing happy Everton reunion with son Kai
It is fair to assume that at least half the kids in Manchester will yell ‘Roooooney!’ when they hit the net in the back garden.
But ahead of his testimonial game against Everton, United and England skipper Wayne admits his own son is not one of those, with six-year-old Kai preferring to mimic the Toffees’ finest.
Rooney will run out at Old Trafford on Wednesday with Manchester United honouring his 12 years at the club with a testimonial against his former employers and boyhood club Everton.
But even though Rooney has won it all with the Red Devils and will skipper the side once again this season, he admits there may be some mixed emotions for the eldest of his three children, who will be more starstruck by the likes of Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku than anyone else.
“Kai is the only one who’s old enough to fully understand so he knows all about Everton and about my time there,” he said.
“His favourite two teams are Manchester United and Everton, and all the kids have both sets of kits.

“Kai’s been to a few games and loves going to Goodison. His favourite players are probably Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku.
“He sometimes plays football in the garden pretending to be them and I’ve heard him singing their songs a few times as well.
“I’ve spoken to Ross whilst we were away with England [at Euro 2016]. I will be walking out with my kids and I let him know that they were looking forward to seeing him and the rest of the lads.
“I’m looking forward to having a catch up with them also. Whenever I play against Everton it’s nice to see a few familiar faces.”
