Soares wants Saints to soar in Europe
Southampton defender Cedric Soares tasted success on the continent with national side Portugal this summer and hopes he can continue to thrive in Europe now he has returned to St Mary’s.
Soares featured in all four of Portugal’s Euro 2016 knockout matches as they went on to lift the trophy for the first time in their history.
After a short break he has returned to the Saints who are not only preparing for the new Premier League season under boss Claude Puel, they have a Europa League campaign to look forward to as well.
Under the guidance of now-Everton manager Ronald Koeman, Southampton dropped just two points in their final six games of the season to nab sixth place.
And Soares wants the Saints to continue marching.
“I want to do the same as last season, or even better,” said the 24-year-old.

“That’s our goal. We are in Europe, which is very good for all the players and staff, it’s a fantastic achievement and I hope we do well.
“We haven’t had long on vacation because of Euro 2016. It was important to have some time off, because not only does your body need to recover but your way of thinking as well.
“Now I’m totally prepared.
“I’ve grown as a player, I’m always growing.
“Euro 2016 was very good for me. I had some difficulties in some games and that makes you stronger. I feel a better player now.”
