Sturridge gunning to end silverware drought

Daniel Sturridge is yet to win any silverware in his three-and-a-half years at Liverpool but the striker is convinced this is the season that trophy drought will finally end.

Sturridge joined the Reds from Chelsea back in January 2013 but while he has finished as a runner-up in the Premier League, Europa League and League Cup since, that maiden trophy has thus far proved elusive.

The 26-year-old has often struggled to stay fit during his Anfield tenure but after completing a first full pre-season programme since 2012, he is ready to shake off any ‘sicknote’ reputation once and for all.

And while he is keen to stake a claim to being the best striker the Premier League has to offer, it is the prospect of finally having something to put in his trophy cabinet that the England star’s main motivation.

“Getting some silverware is the aim for me this season. That’s what I’d love to do,” said Sturridge.

“We want to be as successful as possible. The main aim is to win trophies with Liverpool.

“That’s all I’ve wanted to do since I’ve been here. We have been so close to winning the Premier League, so close to winning two finals, but this year is the year when we have to try and win that trophy.

“I will let my feet do the talking. You guys have known me a long time and know I believe in myself.

“I will continue to strive to be the best player — to be the best striker in the league and do the best for this club.”
