Swansea’s future excites Britton

Leon Britton has virtually seen it all in his time at Swansea City, but feels the club can hit new heights following their change of ownership.

The 33-year-old made his Swansea debut in a 1-0 defeat to Exeter City in a League Two contest, during a loan spell from West Ham in 2002/03.

Since then he has played for the Swans in the top four tiers in English football, moved with them from Vetch Field to the Liberty Stadium and worked under nine permanent managers.

He signed a one-year contract extension at the weekend, suggesting he has no plans to move on from south Wales any time soon.

And Britton explains he is excited by what the future could hold after an American consortium purchased a 60 per cent stake in the club during the close season.

“In the Premier League you can’t stand still. If you think you have made it and you relax, you get found out because there are teams spending a lot of money,” said Britton.

“But I think we can keep progressing and hopefully the new owners will give us some fresh impetus.

“I am sure they will invest in the playing side of things as well as the stadium.

“Hopefully that will make the club grow more and more over the next few years.”
