Walker wants fitting goodbye to White Hart Lane

Tottenham Hotspur kick-off their final season at White Hart Lane this afternoon, and right-back Kyle Walker believes it’s imperative they make their home ground an impenetrable fortress this term.

Spurs have played at White Hart Lane since 1899 but next season will play their home matches at Wembley Stadium while a brand new 61,000-seater ground is finished off in the existing site in N17.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team lost three Premier League matches on home turf last term.

But, ahead of this afternoon’s visit from Crystal Palace, Walker believes it is important they can limit the amount of points dropped so the iconic old ground gets its deserved send-off.

“It’s always great to play at the Lane,” said the 26-year-old, who joined Spurs from home-town club Sheffield United in 2009.

“At the back end of last season we didn’t put it to bed as we wanted to but it’s always good to get back there.

“The crowd was excellent last season and hopefully they can keep it going.

“We wanted to make it a fortress last year and we did that so hopefully we can do the same this time and do even better.”
