Watford’s record signing Isaac told to follow Odion Ighalo and he’ll be a Success
Missing the pre-season training camp because you lost a travel document is far from an ideal start to life at a new club. But Watford’s record signing Isaac Success has been urged to follow in the footsteps of his fellow countryman Odion Ighalo.
Success became the Hornets’ most expensive signing when he joined from Granada this summer for an undisclosed fee which is believed to be around £12.5m.
The 20-year-old was the Spanish club’s Player of the Year last season and in joining fellow Pozzo-owned club Watford, is following in the footsteps of Nigerian international Ighalo, who has scored 37 goals in his two years in England and was the subject of a rejected £37.5m bid from Shanghai SIPG this summer.

Success’ Golden Boys career did not get off to a good start as he missed the club’s pre-season trip to Austria because he misplaced his Spanish residence permit.
But the Nigeria Under-20 international has been involved with the first team since their return and experienced midfielder Ben Watson has been impressed.
“He’s a young boy,” said Watson. “He’s still got a lot to learn but he’s only got to look at Ighalo who was in a similar situation, coming from Granada. He hit the ground running and scored tonnes of goals.
“If he can repeat that and be as good as Iggy then we’ve got another fantastic player on our hands.”
