Antonio puzzled by West Ham’s slump

New home, new era but things are not going well at West Ham United.

Slaven Bilic’s team have already been knocked out of Europe this term and finished the weekend in the Premier League’s bottom three after a 4-2 hammering by West Bromwich Albion – their fourth defeat in five league matches.

By contrast, the Hammers were fifth after five games last season.

And versatile midfielder Michail Antonio admits it is difficult to fathom quite why things are going so wrong for the east Londoners.

“We don’t have the resilience we had last year and we need to get that back,” said the 26-year-old.

“We haven’t changed players, nothing’s changed – the only new player there is Arthur (Masuaku) and he’s a quality left-back.

“I don’t see what the difference is. It has to be mentality more than anything, because we haven’t changed players. We have to forget everything that’s happened and start again.

“We’ve all played the games to understand what we need and we have to perform on the day.

“I’m not happy scoring when we’re losing – I’d rather not score and win. Hopefully I can score and win next week.”
