Drinkwater hails Leicester’s Champions League achievement
Leicester City’s first-ever appearance in the Champions League is a massive triumph for the club no matter what happens this season, according to midfielder Danny Drinkwater.
The 26-year-old midfielder was a major part of the Foxes’ incredible Premier League success last year which earned them a top seeding for their European group stage.
Leicester face Belgian champions Club Brugge in their first game tomorrow and fans are also looking forward to trips to FC Porto and FC Copenhagen in the coming months.
But despite the enormity of the occasion for the club, Drinkwater is eager to manage expectations, especially after Leicester’s indifferent start to the new campaign including a 4-1 defeat at Anfield.
“We’re all excited because it’s a big achievement for the club and for the players to be a part of it is huge,” he said.
“We deserve to be in it and if we can put our stamp on Champions League football, it’d be perfect.

“All credit to the lads and the staff that have helped along the way because it’s a huge tournament. It’s probably the biggest competition in club football.
“No game in the Champions League will be easy so we’re expecting a tough game. If we can go there and get a draw then we’ve got a point on the board, but if we can get a win it’d be even better.
“If we reach the point of getting to the next stage as early as we can, it helps us as a squad. Any point away from home in the Champions League is massive.”
