Johnson impressed with Chelsea starlet Abraham

Chelsea can forget about chasing strikers such as Antoine Griezmann and Romelu Lukaku according to Bristol City boss Lee Johnson – because youngster Tammy Abraham is good enough to play for the Blues right now.

The 18-year-old is one of 37 Chelsea players currently out on loan, and he has dazzled at his temporary club scoring nine goals in 11 City games so far.

His latest strike was the winner at Craven Cottage as Bristol City came from behind to beat Fulham 2-1 and move into the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

Chelsea splashed £33m on Michy Batshuayi this summer to compliment star striker Diego Costa, and rumours persist they will go back in for £60m-rated duo Griezmann and Lukaku next year.

But Johnson insists Abraham has something special and could go on to be one of the best of his generation.

“He’s a lovely lad who loves his football. That’s the bit you can’t change. He’s got to love his football and not love being a footballer,” he said.

“If he continues that in his career, the world is his oyster. He is top class. He could get into Chelsea’s team now.

“He’s a poacher. His movement is very sharp and when he’s energised and got the buzz he’s a handful. He’s got stuff to learn.

“He’s 18 years old. He needs to improve technically, like with his back to goal. I feel privileged that Bristol City have one of England’s brightest young stars.”
