Karius enjoying Merseyside life

A broken hand means Loris Karius has yet to make a Premier League appearance for Liverpool, but with the German approaching full fitness, the people of Merseyside have been making him feel welcome.

The 23-year-old joined from FSV Mainz during the summer and was expected to usurp Simon Mignolet as the first-choice keeper at Anfield, but required an operation to repair a broken hand sustained in Liverpool’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea in August’s International Champions Cup.

Even though he still has not made his Anfield debut, the former German Under-21 keeper has been greeted on the streets of Liverpool and he cannot wait to repay their faith.

“People have recognised me at the traffic lights, when I’m having lunch or things like that and it’s really nice to see because they’re all just wishing you the best and a good recovery,” said Karius.

“It’s nice to hear from people and to know they care about you. It’s a very good feeling, especially as I am new to the club and haven’t been able to show them that much yet, but they are already supporting me like this.

“It’s nice to see they don’t forget about you and they stand behind you and want you to come back soon. I think that’s very good for any player, not just for me. It helps a lot.”
