Lallana thriving in new Liverpool role

Liverpool’s Adam Lallana admits he is loving the chance to be so influential in games following his change of position this season.

Often used out wide since his arrival from Southampton in July 2014, Lallana has adopted a deeper, central role this term under the instruction of manager Jurgen Klopp.

That has not prevented him from chipping in at the top end of the pitch, however, netting against Arsenal and champions Leicester City for the free-scoring Reds.

He transferred that form to the international stage too, marking Sam Allardyce’s first game in charge of England with a late winner in Slovakia.

Lallana said: “I see a lot more of the ball.

“When I was out wide, there would be periods in the game where I wouldn’t be as involved in the game as I would like.

“I’m sure anyone would say they want to be on the ball as much as possible.

“In the central area I’m getting a lot more touches on the ball and I’m being able to use one of my qualities.

“The future looks very bright. The squad is very talented and it’s just about being more consistent. The manager is on to us all the time about improving.”
