Mata wants to bring smiles to Manchester United

Midfielder Juan Mata hopes his regular blog published on Manchester United’s official website has helped to lift the gloom at Old Trafford in recent times.

After a strong start to life under manager Jose Mourinho, United fans received a sobering reminder there is still a lot of hard work to do before they return to past glories after suffering three defeats in a week.

That run was ended at the weekend with a 4-1 defeat of champions Leicester City in which Mata scored his second Premier League goal of the season.

Should the campaign continue to provide peaks and troughs, Mata hopes he can keep everyone smiling regardless.

“What I try to stress in the blog is to be positive and wait for good things,” said the former Chelsea playmaker.

“As a group of people, we’re trying to do our best to bring happiness to the fans and I think these good things will come.

“That is what I try to spread, to cheer the fans up when they perhaps don’t want to read a blog or see anything when we lose.

“They just want to see us winning games but there is a way I can do something, through that post and message, to try to tell them how I feel.

“Thank you for your support and sorry for the bad moments, but we will be happy together very soon for sure, like we were last weekend.”
