Mawson settling into life at Swansea

Swansea City new-boy Alfie Mawson has settled in well to Premier League life and cannot wait to make his debut in the top flight.

The 22-year-old made the step up from Championship side Barnsley, to Swansea, at the end of the August transfer window but has yet to make an appearance for the Swans.

Manager Francesco Guidolin brought the centre-back in for an undisclosed fee, and Mawson has been keen to learn as much as he can from his illustrious colleagues.

“I am working hard to impress the manager to show him that I’m ready to step up,” said the former Brentford man.

“The Premier League is obviously going to be a big step up in terms of quality, but I’m confident in my ability and that I can play at this level.

“The facilities here are fantastic. It gives every player the platform to develop while the lads have been great.

“Some people have an image of a Premier League football being arrogant and flash, but it is totally the opposite here.

“Everyone has been very welcoming and open with me, and I’ve really enjoyed it so far. It’s been easy to slot in.”

Another summer addition was Spain’s Fernando Llorente, with Mawson saying the experienced international has already provided him with a wealth of information.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to be training against the likes of Fernando, who I’ve been talking to a lot to learn as much as I can,” said Swansea’s new No.6.

“It’s not every day that you have a team-mate who has won the World Cup and European Championships, so it’s an ideal opportunity for me to pick up advice and learn.”
