Pardew: Dann leading by example at Crystal Palace

All of the talk in recent weeks may have been about the new arrivals at Selhurst Park but Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has heaped praise on skipper Scott Dann following his Player of the Month award for August.

This week Crystal Palace welcomed the arrival of former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini, while the Eagles have already signed Andros Townsend, Steve Mandanda, James Tomkins, and Christian Benteke earlier this summer.

News also broke this week about new loan signing Loic Remy being ruled out for a number of weeks with an ankle injury but Pardew insists it’s not all doom and gloom, with Dann holding things together over the opening fixtures of the new campaign.

The season has certainly not started as Crystal Palace and Pardew would have hoped for so far but the form of Dann has left the Eagles boss beaming.

“Well of course he’s the new captain here and his performances have to reflect that,” the manager said.

“It just shows the measure of him that he gets the captain’s armband and [immediately] wins Player of the Month.

“He sets the standards on the playing field, at the training ground here, and we’re lucky to have him.

“He’s in terrific form.”
