Sagna anticipates “crazy” Manchester derby

Full-back Bacary Sagna expects this weekend’s Manchester derby to be “crazy”.

The summer arrival of old foes Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola in the United and City dug-outs respectively makes this the most hotly anticipated derby since the two teams went head-to-head in a virtual Premier League title-decider in 2012.

Both teams have won three games out of three to kick-off the new Premier League campaign, though it is far too early in the season for Saturday lunchtime’s clash to be billed as a title-decider.

But Sagna, who joined City from Arsenal in July 2014, is still anticipating fireworks at Old Trafford.

“It’s going to be crazy,” said the 33-year-old.

“Every single derby is special, but of course now Pep Guardiola is here and Jose Mourinho is in the same city, so everyone will be more excited.

“As a player, we want to make it exciting for us.”

Though it is early days in Guardiola’s tenure, City appear to be playing with a new lease of life.

But Sagna insists, regardless who is picking the team, pulling on the sky blue shirt is motivation enough.

“I’ve always been excited to play for City, even when I was playing for Manuel Pellegrini – he gave a lot to the club and the players,” Sagna added.

“We have a new manager and we have to adapt to his desires but it’s great to come into a new season with a 100 per cent start.

“I am excited. Everyone knows how important he is in football.”
