Wenger happy with goal-scoring options at Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has welcomed a selection headache after Oliver Giroud reminded his compatriot of his talents.

With Arsenal balancing Premier League, Champions League and EFL Cup duties, and with the FA Cup to come in the New Year, the Gunners manager is happy to have options.

Giroud scored twice after coming off the bench on Saturday as Arsenal ran out 4-1 winners at Sunderland, who remain bottom of the league.

And with fellow striker Alexis Sanchez also scoring a double at the Stadium of Light, Wenger explained that both frontmen would get game time over the season.

“Olivier is a guy who is mentally absolutely fantastic,” he said.

“He’s strong and every time he’s questioned, he gives you the right answer on the pitch. I admire that in him. When they score goals, you have no headache.

“We play every three days and it’s simple – nobody can play all the games and it’s down to me to find the right balance in every single game between attacking and defending, even if we are more of an attacking team.

“Sometimes I can play them together, sometimes separately, but we play so many games that everybody should get the number of games he wants.”
