Leicester form no concern for Schmeichel

There is a level of expectation which comes with their Premier League champions tag, but Kasper Schmeichel insists Leicester City’s underwhelming start to the season is nothing to be concerned about.

The Foxes have picked up eight points from as many games so far this term, with Saturday’s defeat to Chelsea a fourth of the season – more than the entirety of their title-winning season.

And the 14 goals conceded has been a further cause for concern for Claudio Ranieri’s side – with five of those coming from corners – but Schmeichel is adamant the confidence is still firmly in place at the King Power Stadium.

“When you look at how we’ve started over the past few seasons, we haven’t been the quickest so I don’t think it’s a time to worry or panic at all,” he said.

“We come good in the middle of the season and we become even better towards the end. At the moment we are working hard on a few things, and I’m 100 per cent sure we will come good.

“We’ve had a chat and things have been said and resolved. It’s a long old season and we’ve had some bad performances away from home, starting badly in games and not being able to recover, but we’re confident we’ll come back strong like we always do.

“We go out and try our best every week – that’s the mentality that won us the league last year, and if it’s good enough, then great.”
