Moyes urges Sunderland to work for good luck
Despite suffering at the hands of some tough refereeing decisions of late, Sunderland manager David Moyes has insisted that his side must look at themselves if they are to turn their fortunes around.
Sunderland fell to a 1-0 defeat at London Stadium thanks to Winston Reid’s 94th-minute winner and though Moyes insisted the goal should have been chalked off for offside, with Jonathan Calleri seemingly blocking the view of Jordan Pickford, he wasn’t sure that misfortune was entirely to blame.
The former Manchester United and Everton manager refused to chalk the result down to bad luck and instead said his men must focus on themselves.
“I don’t know if we’re unlucky. I don’t know if that’s how it works,” Moyes said.
“We can only blame ourselves. But I think sometimes you have to say, you know, you need a little bit of things to go [your way], regarding decisions, and I’m not sure this one went for us.”

And far from shying away from The Black Cats’ problems – they have just two points from nine Premier League games – he admits he knew he was in for a challenge when he took the job, but urged the whole squad and staff to band together.
“I don’t think when I came here I probably expected it to be an awful lot better,” he explained.
“I hoped it would be better, but I think deep down, I also expected it to be that way. But you know, it’s a collective job now.”
