Herrera relishing role at Mourinho’s United

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has admitted he has never loved football more than he does now under Jose Mourinho.

The 27-year-old has grown to be an integral member of United’s weekly playing squad and is relishing Mourinho’s decision to push him into a deeper role.

Herrera is full of appreciation for his manager, who he is convinced will be a huge success at United this season, and beyond.

“I think all of you have seen that since the beginning of the season, after a few games my role changes and the manager has helped me a lot to get the knowledge about that role,” said the 27-year-old.

“I am so happy to be a bit more of a defensive player than last season, because I can share my energy with the team in that position.

“He has been great for me, but not just for me, the team as well.”

Herrera has found his name on the team sheet week in, week out, and believes he is doing all he can to make the most of the chances he is being given.

“My first two seasons here I played 71 games, so it’s not a bad number of games. But, of course, I cannot lie. This is the time I am enjoying most at Man United,” added the Spaniard.

“I try to be aggressive, whenever we lose the ball I try to get it back always, but sometimes when you see the football, you can recover more possession.

“This season I’m getting a lot of minutes on the pitch, I think I’m the fourth in the team in terms of minutes.”
