Clayton drawing on Boro positives

Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton is keen to draw on the positives his side showed in defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Clayton’s side lost 2-0 but he insists they can use it to improve their form in the Premier League as they look to avoid the drop, giving a performance that at times didn’t warrant the result at the Riverside.

Middlesbrough host Manchester United on Sunday and Clayton has called on his side to pull together after a tough period, without a top-flight success this calendar year.

And believes his squad owe it to the Boro faithful to perform well for the remainder of the season as they sit three points from safety, with just 11 games of their campaign remaining.

“There’s a lot of positives in the performance but we’ve been beat when we really wanted to make it to Wembley so there’s a lot of disappointment,” said Clayton.

We’ve been under the cosh lately from all angles so we’ll come out fighting and need to show that every week from now until the end of the season.

“We’ll take the positives from Saturday and take them into the Man United game. If we can get the fans going like we did, then try to get a goal and keep going.”
