Adam keen to extend Stoke stay

Charlie Adam may not be first choice at Stoke City but the veteran midfielder insists he is settled in the Potteries and wants to sign a new contract.

The deep-lying midfielder joined Stoke from Liverpool in 2012, but since Mark Hughes joined the club a year later the Scotsman has often had to make do with a place on the bench.

Stoke have not enjoyed this campaign, with a bottom-half finish likely amid concerns the club has stagnated under Hughes – with several players failing to live up to their price tags.

Hughes is expected to ring the changes this summer and freshen up his ageing squad, and Adam is one player linked with a move away – with clubs in Scotland reportedly keen.

But the 31-year-old is content at Stoke and will not force a move away if he continues to play infrequently.

“Scotland is always an option, but I am happy where I am. It is a great club with great people. I’m comfortable there,” he said.

“This is the second longest time I have been at any club after Rangers. If I do get a new deal, it will be the longest.

“I feel appreciated there, but I would say that of every club I have been at. I love what I do. It’s fantastic.

“I want to play in the Premier League for as long as I can, hopefully until I retire, but it is the club who will decide what happens.”
