Stoke must snap up John Terry urges ex-club captain
Former Stoke City captain Andy Griffin has urged Mark Hughes to snap up John Terry after capturing Darren Fletcher from West Brom.
The Potters have moved quickly to secure former Manchester United man Fletcher to bolster their midfield.
And Griffin is now desperate to see Chelsea legend Terry join his fellow veteran at the Bet365 Stadium.
“I was quite surprised Fletcher was allowed to leave West Brom because Tony Pulis has always spoken exceptionally highly of him and he was pivotal to everything good about that side over the last couple of years,” the 38-year-old said.
“It’s a great signing for Stoke and looking at other positions, I think Erik Pieters, who has been very consistent, would benefit from more competition at left-back, from someone like Luke Shaw.
“And I’d be looking at John Terry. I liked Bruno Martins Indi but if I had a choice a Ryan Shawcross and Terry partnership looks very good. Would Terry come to Stoke? I would like to see it happen.”
Fletcher was captain during his two-year spell at the Hawthorns and Griffin has lauded the Scottish international’s leadership.
“His leadership qualities are fantastic, he has bags of energy, he is a good distributor of the ball and he gets the best out of those players around him,” added Griffin.
“I am sure Hughes will want to bring in another couple of signings but they have to be the right ones, with the right character as well as ability.”
