Angel Rangel delighted to see Roque Mesa join Swansea

Swansea City veteran Angel Rangel believes the signing of Roque Mesa is a real coup for the club ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Spanish right-back, who has spent 10 years at the club, first saw the Swans’ new signing play in La Liga for Las Palmas against Real Madrid in a thrilling 3-3 draw in March.

Years later, Rangel will get the chance to link up with the midfielder in South Wales and still has fond memories of seeing the 28-year-old in action.

“It shows the ambition of the club. We want to have a much better season and bringing in players with the quality of Roque shows we are moving in the right direction,” said the full-back.

“It shows having a great training ground with fantastic facilities can help attract some great players.

“Hopefully he can show his quality in the Premier League and help us to achieve something special.

“Roque chose Swansea not just for the way we play and the manager, but also because of the set-up here and the area.

“I saw Roque a number of times last season in La Liga. The game that really stands out for me was that match at Real Madrid.

“It ended 3-3 but I was very impressed with how he played that day, particularly as it was at the Bernabeu. It shows he is a real winner.”
