Slattery eager to make his mark at Southampton
Southampton midfielder Callum Slattery is hoping he can make a good impression on Saints’ new manager Mauricio Pellegrino.
Slattery, an academy graduate who has come through the ranks since joining Southampton as an eight-year-old, recently signed a three-year contract which will keep him at the club until 2020.
The 18-year-old was a regular in the under-23s during the 2016-17 campaign and helped the under-18s side to a memorable Youth Cup run, which included a victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
And having already mastered the transition to playing at under-23 level, Slattery is now determined on improving his credentials throughout the 2017-18 season.
“The new manager has come in and you always want to impress and do the best that you can. Hopefully he can see a bit of talent in me and I can be with them for longer,” said Slattery.
“It was very positive last season. Being with the under-18s and stepping up to play in the under-23s is a big step in the game.
“It was good for me to end the season with them and know that I was in and around that team is a good thing.
“For now, I’m focused on me playing football and just doing my best to see where I end up.”
