Ki: Swans are thriving under most intense pressure

Ki Sung-yueng admits Swansea have saved their best form for when it matters most as they look to secure their Premier League survival.

Paul Clement’s side went six league games without a win before victories over Stoke and Everton either side of a draw with Manchester United have moved them out of the drop zone.

Hull City are a point behind in 18th and the Swans face a tricky trip to Sunderland up next but Ki is feeling confident.

“Having gone six games without a win, our confidence was low and that affected our performances,” said the midfielder.

“The Stoke game was a real defining moment for us. The pressure was really on us and we had to get three points. I think it shows that we can deal with the pressure, because performing in that situation is not easy.

“That performance – and result – really boosted the confidence of the team and we took that into the Manchester United game and then against Everton.

“Having that sort of confidence is going to be a big help going into the final two games with Sunderland and West Brom.

“It gives players the feeling that they can express themselves on the pitch and not be affected by the pressure so much.”

And the fans have played a crucial part in the Swans up turn in form – according to the South Korea skipper.

“We knew the Hull result before the game and that gave us extra energy, but the fans gave us even more energy,” he added.

“The fans were absolutely amazing at the weekend.

“I understand their frustrations throughout the season, but they have been behind us all the way.

“They create a fantastic atmosphere and when we are tiring near the end of a game the noise they make gives us extra energy and picks us up.”
